"Soft life" used to mean designer bags and brunch. Ask around today, and you get a very different answer.
We stopped 20 people across Lekki, Yaba, and Ikeja and asked one question: what does soft life mean to you right now? The answers surprised us.
The Pattern We Didn't Expect
More than half mentioned sleep. Not vacations, not luxury — sleep. "Soft life is going to bed before midnight and not owing anybody an explanation," one respondent told us.
Several others described it in financial terms that had nothing to do with spending: "Soft life is having three months of expenses saved so a bad week doesn't become a bad year."
"Everybody thinks soft life is about looking rich. For me it's just not flinching when my phone rings."
Only two of the twenty mentioned material things first. The rest talked about boundaries, rest, and financial calm — a quieter, more internal definition than the one that trends online.
